+At the low level, the economy of Elfland is fairly ordinary, if a bit more barter based than in other lands.  It is when you reach the level of the gentry that you realize the entire place is run on quid pro quo, and "money" is just a convenient, if barbaric, token to keep score with.  This may drive outside traders to frustration, but as long as the Elves want outland luxuries, and the gold keeps flowing, they cope.

+  *Kingsmere: The seventy league across, nearly perfectly circular inland freshwater sea in the middle of the nation.    Amazingly enough, the Elves aren't responsible for it, originally.  That, according to the Liturgy of the Nurturing Earth Mother, dates back to the early days of the Divine Era (when "people" were still a novelty), during a major **DEVIL** incursion.  She asked the primal Light spirit Eden to "do something about it".  Gloriana's successor, Legatus I, __is__ the one to smooth out the edges and reformat the island in the middle, however.

   *Gloriana the Resplendent: Second ruler of the Principalities, daughter of Regis I.  Arranged for a lot of the nationwide infrastructure, including the Watchweyrs.  Did not live to see her 300th birthday.
   *Illustrious III: High King during the seventh century.  Responsible for the "Dramatic Eastwalls" debacle.  Died under suspicious circumstances at age 190.
