 Toadwort doesn't discuss his background, but it is clear that he was treated badly by his former family-group.  this has left him distrustful, more than a little paranoid, and with a severe case of PTSD.  How [[Erlich]] secured his loyalty is also not a topic of discussion.
 His official job is "watch commander of [[Digglett's Bluff]]".  This largely amounts to living up in the watchtower, listening for unfamiliar people or creatures approaching the village (he can hear people talking well over a mile away), and whacking a gong retrieved from the [[Spire of Mirabel]] with his favorite two-handed hammer when he suspects a threat.
