====Overgard==== Overgard is the new capital of "Eastern Sors", the former territories of house Rivan in North-Eastern Asteria that encompasses the area bounded by the Castella River, the Aster River, the Camwood, and what is considered Far-Eastern Asteria, where the terrain becomes quite flat. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Rivan, on the west side of the Siren's Song River. It is a very //new// city, less than a century, and shows obvious signs it was built to be a **Symbol** of House Sorland rule, and less so a place of commerce, culture... or fun. ===Population=== As Imperial cities go, Overgard has a higher percentage of humans than usual, better than 85%. It __is__ on the Trade Road, so there are very rigidly defined Elven and Uruk districts, with the rest mostly being Goblin subraces. Hobgoblin and 'taur types are almost non-existent (probably to avoid intimidating the human gentry), and the city is rather far from any Dwarf-holds to attract many of the Stone-Father's children.\\ As Imperial cities go, Overgard has a moderately low population, around 50,000, with at least twelve thousand of that in Riverside, and another two associated with the Rivergard presence. ===Locations=== *Elven District: A walled enclave inside the north gate, home of the Elfland trade factors. Oddly, //less// pompous than the local highborn humans. *Government Campus: houses the Imperial Ministerial apparatus, set on the south-west side of the city. *Grand Plaza: A large stone-paved open space, south of the palace, good for crowd scenes. Has a big statue, several fountains, market-day stalls, and is lined on the east and west sides by the Signature temples of the city. There are smaller shrines to other gods scattered about, mostly in Riverbank. *Temple of Flowing Waters *Temple of the God of Cities *Temple of Judgement *Temple of Kings *Temple of Law *Temple of the Maker God *High Houses: Where "Important" people live, between the Palace and the riverside wall. The more important you are, the further up-slope your mansion is, and the better the view. *Jade District: similar to the Elven one, just inside the south gate. Hosts the Mandarinate interests, and the best restaurants inside the walls. *Lake Rivan: The five mile across freshwater lake separating Overgard and An Rivan. If it looks on the map like an overlapping pair of impact craters, that is probably because it is: legend has it that the gods aof War and Home got into it on this site back in the Divine Era. *Merchant's Quarter: Between the Government Campus and the Elven enclave, hosts the Imperial trading interests who happen to be on the Sorland's good side. *Palace Sors: Home of Earl Sorland-Gribbel, parked atop the artificial hill at the center of the city. Shiny, but not necessarily pretty. *Riverbank: The more organically developed district of the city outside the south gate, along the Siren's Song River. The "branch" office of the Mercenaries Guild sees more business than the official one inside the walls: mercs are more comfortable where it's more fun. *Siren's Shrine: In the middle of the northern lobe of Lake Rivan stands a monument to the Celestial Primal Avatar of Water, Siren. It is one of the easier locations to contact, contract, or annoy Her. ===NPCs of Note=== *Alaric Sorland-Gribbel: Earl of Overgard, administrator of Eastern Sors. Alaric is __not__ a good ruler, and probably is not well favored by Grand Duke Sorland, the Emperor, or frankly any of the regional governors. He has a desperate need to prove his legitimacy. *Claude Dunman: Mercenaries Guildmaster, main office. Claude is a bureaucrat through and through, and focuses largely on supplying warm bodies to the Earl's ongoing efforts to suppress rebellion. (Claude is also a survivor of Hisilómë of Ravensdeep's corruption purge thirty years ago before the Dark Elf relocated to Blackstone Freeholding.) *Erdwin Caskbinder: Acolyte of the God of Judgement, son of a cooper. Erdwin is young (17), polite, earnest, and exceptionally stubborn. That last is how he ended up as the High Priest's caretaker. *Marcella Tamanikin: Chief operating officer, Riverside Mercenaries Guild office. True goblin, but clearly with enogh human blood to smooth out the angular bits. Snarky, competent, and a Shadow/Water-aspected spirit caller who includes among her contracted spirits **Fenrir**. One of the oldest of the daughters of the infamous Tamani Nightmistress.
