Name: Thorbrand\\ Race: Human\\ Age: 72\\ Residence: Newhaven Thorbrand "The Wall", "The Avalanche", "Black Granite", no family appellation. Thorbrand doesn't discuss his background before he became a mercenary in the Asterian Empire, but he says his real life began when he decided the bounty on Erlich was worth a shot. After a few days of chasing around town, he decided that the runaway thief and his highborn lady friend were clearly enjoying life more than he was, and joined up with them. He's been their close-quarters anchor of support ever since. Thorbrand is a master of pretty much any weapon that has a handle and a dangerous end, from daggers to four-handed ogre war-scythes. The main concession he has made to his advancing age is that he walks with a long handled [[https://www.budk.com/M48-Kommando-Survival-Hammer-Tactical-Hiking-Staff-25873|war-hammer]] as a cane. As a heavy fighter, he can switch from front line defense to brutal assault at a moment's notice, usually to the dismay of his opponents. Despite his age, Thorbrand is an intimidating figure, one of the larger humans you are likely to encounter. As guard Captain of the Freeholding, he rarely needs to bring physical force to bear to enforce the peace: simply expressing his bloodlust causes most brawls to skid to a halt as the participants look nervously about for the __real__ threat. Thorbrand's primary and favorite piece of enchanted kit is the **Glove That Grows**, a gauntlet he wears on his (admittedly arthritic) left hand that on command can extend over the rest of his body as heavy armor and a medium shield. He also carries a high-Elven dueling wand (fire) for those days he needs to do something about a problem //over there//, and it is too much effort to get over there first. **Eight Demon Bag**: A wide mouthed, drawstring belt pouch, enchanted such that it will hold any eight items you can fit through the mouth. It is known Thorbrand keeps his change purse, a wrapped bundle of spare clothes, and a bandolier of potions in there. Oh, also... **Indigestible**: Thorbrand's adamantite-alloy great-helm. This Divine-era artifact renders the wearer immune to corrosive agents and unenhanced biting attacks. It itself is impervious to __all__ bite attacks. "It's too heavy to wear regularly these days, but frankly everything I ever fought that was taller than me has tried to eat my head at least once." The forehead boss of the helmet is an almost perfect match to the original style, but not quite. Apparently the original owner had a //horn// there, and Thorbrand didn't want to run around with an "aim arrows here" target on his head.
