**Ungoliant**: General term of Elven origin referring to any spider larger than a [[halvelings|Halveling]] or a good sized dog.  Once they get to the size of a [[fauns|Faun]], they invariably start hunting //people//, and ones the size of small houses start to talk to their victims.  The tale of //High King Regis I and the Ungol-Mother// is quite epic, but may cause nightmares in small children.

**Ungoliant, Crystal**: A variety of giant spider found only in the [[Starfallen Wastes]].  The main body is about the size of a donkey, and they are actively sought by a brotherhood of hunters based out of several villages on the Wastes' edge: the crystal comprising them is //Halite//, and this is the primary source of salt in the [[Fallow Marches]],  Crystal ungoliant venom is corrosive, and chlorine based.  It is assumed that the creatures hole up in a network of caverns in bad weather, with access to subterranean salt deposits.
