Overview
The former seat of power of the Grand Dukes of House Rivan. This once prosperous and pivotal city has been all but abandoned since the fall of the Rivans and the founding of the city of Overgard across Lake Rivan by House Sorland.
History
At the dawn of the Imperal Era, An Rivan was the capital of the Kingdom of Rivan, one of the better run states coming out of the Degenerate Era, if known for their vicious practicality. When the Asterians came calling, looking to expand their empire, the Rivans simply joined up without a fight, securing their power for the next millennium.
Roughly a century ago, House Rivan lost badly in the grand melee of Imperial politics, the Grand Duke beheaded, and most of their territories divided up among the other great houses. The Sorlands took ownership of the core Rivan territories, and started disassembling An Rivan to build their new city. This amounted to most of the walls, and a bit of the west side, until the costs of fending off bandits, rebels, and the monsters that had moved into the abandoned metropolis proved prohibitive.
Today the ruined city is occupied by beasts, bandits, and small enclaves of freeholders, visited only by the foolish and adventurous, as rumors of lost Rivan treasuries refuse to fade into folklore.
