Bogan's Reach
A subterranean community of true Goblins, and one of the oldest occupied sites in the Fallow Marches. The Reach is the gateway to a vast cavern complex whose range, both vertically and laterally, is still unknown. It is definitely vast enough to support a functioning ecosystem of giant bugs.
Location
Bogan's Reach is located at the mouth of one of the branches of the Lazuli River, and one hundred and fifty feet straight up a cliff of one of the Eastwall Mountains (they paid their dwarven neighbors good money for that cliff).
History
The wisewomen claim that the ancestral Bogans did not come to the Reach over land, but rather up from the depths shortly after High King Illustrious III rearranged the Eastwalls to his liking. They did not reach the surface before House Glamourous moved out, and were apparently ignored by House Stellar up until the time they left. The Starfall did nothing to improve their opinion of Elves.
An unfortunate (goblin) generation of conflict occurred approximately five hundred years ago when Bogan's Reach and Fortuitous Hall border patrols had a surprise encounter, resulting in violence, and in time, skirmishing. Today the relationship between the two communities is that of good-natured rivalry, and solid economic ties.
Population
Bogans are an offshoot tribe of true Goblins, adapted for long term underground living with slightly grayer skin and somewhat larger eyes. The Reach supports approximately six hundred individuals, and if the traveling merchants are to be believed, there are at least a dozen smaller communities deeper in the mountain.
A small (20-30) group of Fortuitous Dwarves dwells in the Reach, and are well treated for their stone crafting skills.
In battle, Bogans prefer crossbows for unit engagements, and short blades for close combat. The Ungoliant ranger cavalry is a small group, and probably has a reputation that exceeds their actual abilities.
Economy
Bogan's reach has two primary sources of income. Foremost is their lock on silk production north of the Uruk Mandarinate. The Bogans raise a (mostly) domesticated breed of attercop. Web-tamers and Weavers are well respected careers.
The other major product of the reach is shaped chitin products. The carapace-shapers craft the bounty of giant bug parts available to them in ways that span the arts of woodcraft and the modern plastics industry. It is said that grand master Nagus can literally reshape chitin with his bare hands. (The Bogans don't let him engage with bug incursions any more: he's getting on in years, and might strain something)
