Starfallen Wastes

Overview

An unnatural region of landscape separating the Sagat Hills and the Tikume Plains to the north from the Atan Hills and the Kring Plains to the south, stretching from the Fallow Marches to the Great Eastfire Desert. Around the edges, the wastes resemble the more impacted areas of the Moon, with overlapping circular craters, round lakes, thin soil, a tenuous grassland cover, and the occasional tree. Deeper in, things get weirder, with great arcs of stone reaching for the sky, as if the land was liquefied, sloshed about, and then suddenly solidified. Wildlife is sparse, preyed upon by rather hardy monsters.

History

Centuries ago, before House Glamourous gave up the lands east of the Eastwall Mountains to House Stellar, the Sagat and Atan hills were separated by the grand and fertile Tarwa river valley, which fed into what is known as the Lazulis River today. Within a few decades of taking over the region, House Stellar packed up en masse, and migrated for the distant east, possibly fleeing something dreadful, for once they had reached the Great Eastfire Desert, they summoned the Terrestrial Elemental Avatar Eden, and called down the Starfall. Presumably their pursuers did not survive the primordial meteor bombardment, but House Stellar was never heard from again.

Over the last half millennium, a thin layer of ecology has crept into the wastes from the edges, though the center regions are for all practical purposes uninhabitable. People aren't always practical, and one can find the occasional settlement in the wastes if one chooses to visit. Bizarre and unique resources can sometimes be found here, left over from that terrible day when the stars fell and the living earth boiled.
