Gephart is an actual demon from the Darkness, bound into a short bow by the arts of the Holy Order of the Shoushou Knights, or quite possibly their predecessors. He only speaks and extinct language called “Ancoise”, even if he appears to understand all modern languages.
Gephart has been in the care of Sister Maria's family for three generations, and as much as he despises to admit it, they have come a long way in rehabilitating him. As a result, Maria has access to his more exotic powers without having to engage in a frustrating contest of wills or enduring partial possession herself. Also, both she, and most of the children she has taught, are now fluent in Ancoise.
