Overview
Xuǎnzé is the youngest of the communities in Blackstone Freeholding, having been founded fifteen years ago when the extended Sheng family emigrated from the Uruk Mandarinate. It is the only community to have an entirely brick (dwarfpour) wall, and no hints of Elven architecture within.
The Shengs brought with them over a hundred plum saplings, which are the mainstay of the orchards surrounding the village. They are also trying to breed an edible cherry, but lacking the magic to enforce improvements in the trees between generations, this will take years.
Population
Xuǎnzé's population is entirely Uruk, and operates more as a family estate than a village. The Shengs aren't an insular folk, with NewHaven just over the hill and in the next valley; they just have their own ways of doing things.
Economy
Xuǎnzé is the only source of fresh plums this side of the Wall of Han, and more importantly, the only source of plume wine. As such, the merchants the family is willing to trust make a tidy profit selling to the wine-obsessed Elven Principalities, and pass along the prosperity to the Shengs.
Locations of Interest
- Duckwort Pond: A good sized body of water north-east of Xuǎnzé, popular with migratory waterfowl. Grandmother Chen complains that northern ducks are sassier than the ones in her homeland. The adjacent meadow is where Lord Erlich expects to site the next outlying village in his domain.
- Mushu Creek: this small stream is fed by a spring in the hill north of the orchards, and empties out in the Tallowmire Marsh to the southwest.
