Blackstone Freeholding
Founded thirty years ago by the Blackstone Company of adventurers, this tiny, though prosperous territory would barely qualify as a barony if part of a larger nation.
Location
The Blackstone Freeholding, deep in the Fallow marches, is largely set along the fertile Iarven-sírë river valley, starting where it merges with the larger Gonglin River. The local geography is dominated by temperate forests and low hills. The primary connection to larger communities involves the eastern branch of Old Trade Road, the direct overland route between the Asterian Empire and the Yamato Shogunate.
Population
A little over 1500 persons dwell full time in the Freeholding. Close to eight hundred of them dwell in Newhaven, while the rest are distributed amongst the outlying villages. The racial mix is only 50% human, with the other racial groups more or less evenly distributed, with the exception of lizard-folk: the climate is not congenial to their needs.
Economy
The Freeholding is moderately self-sufficient. Imports include quality metal products, luxury goods, limestone gravel (for dwarfpour), and Asterian foodstuffs. Exports include timber, furs, oats, and as one might expect from a community founded by adventurers, alcoholic beverages. The Freeholding produces a solid oat stout, decent apple and pear ciders, an acceptable apple brandy, and plum wine.
