Ichigo is one of those grizzled, veteran samurai you see advising “young lords” in anime and Tokugawa era fiction. Skilled, disciplined, and experienced, he served the daimyo of Toyotomi prefecturate until three years ago, when his master's enemies convinced the emperor that he was a traitor, and had dishonored the Shogunate. Ichigo's master, being too honorable for his own good, told his collected retainers that as his last act as their lord, master, and the one given their lives to do with as he willed, was that they should LIVE: this dishonor, if there was such, was his alone to shoulder, and it should not stain the rest of their lives.
Ichigo eventually found his way to Blackstone Freeholding, where Erlich, a friend of the former master, gave him a place to stay until he “figured things out”. Until recently, that has involved a lot of drinking. Something changed earlier this spring, and he's coming out of his shell (and remaining semi-sober). His blade is still sworn to the Toyotomis, and he refuses to draw it against foes, meaning there are a number of idiots out there who have suffered grievous bokken injuries.
Ichigo is a master of the (somewhat infamous) Shikigami swordsmanship school, which emphasizes speed and efficiency in sending one's opponents to meet their ancestors above all else. And Ichigo is very good at it: the last brawl he was in down in the Rowdy House, no one ever saw him get up from his bench or move towards his weapon, there was just the sound of cracking ribs, and drunken fools bouncing off the far wall.
- Onimaru Kunitsuna - The Kenshiro family blade is a simple appearing katana, With black grip ribbons and pommel tassel, that spends its time residing in an equally simple black-lacquered scabbard. To those with the senses to perceive (such as player characters), it definitely has an awareness to it, has a strength all its own, and appears to be patiently waiting. While Ichigo occasionally speaks directly to the blade, no one has ever heard it respond.
